EUDR readiness in the African coffee sector – where are we now and what is left to do?

An Outreach Event of the Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains

South-South Dialogue and Regional Exchange for Cross-Sectoral Learning around the EU Deforestation Regulation

With six months remaining before the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) becomes mandatory in January 2026, it is crucial to pause for stock-taking, learning, and sharing good practices to assess the coffee sector’s progress toward compliance. This conference will bring together key stakeholders of the African coffee sector with coffee importing entities in Europe.

The purpose of the conference is to review the sector’s readiness for EUDR, identify gaps, and implement measures to address them before the regulation takes effect. This proactive approach will help exporting companies ensure uninterrupted access to European markets once the EU’s compliance deadline is enforced.

  • Showcase solutions, share practices, and discuss challenges on sustainable coffee production
  • Dive deep into thematic topics (e.g. data and traceability, market access, smallholder needs, agricultural practices etc.), fostering learning and collaboration
  • Strengthen partnerships and connections across the coffee supply chain
  • Exchange on overall preparedness for market regulation, including EUDR compliance test runs of simulated coffee shipments from different origins with EU Competent authorities.
  • Learn about requirements, recent processes and support mechanisms towards deforestation-free commitments
