On\u00a0<\/span>3 July<\/span><\/b>, the\u00a0webinar\u00a0in the Zero Deforestation Learning Series, organised by the Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains, took place. This time, the topic was\u00a0<\/span>Public-Private collaboration<\/span><\/b>. <\/span>The\u00a0webinar, split into morning and afternoon sessions, brought together five speakers from around the world who shared fascinating insights. The discussion with the 50 participants was valuable, with questions and ideas\u00a0regarding\u00a0<\/span>risk mitigation and the possibility of policy and business<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>reinforcing each other<\/span><\/b>\u00a0being exchanged.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

[06:10]<\/span><\/i>\u202f\u00a0<\/span>Kennedy Nyambi\u00a0<\/span><\/b>from\u00a0<\/span>Empowering Farmers Foundation<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Zambia) opened the morning session with\u00a0an input about\u00a0<\/span>Organic Soybean Production in Zambia<\/span><\/i>. He highlighted how\u00a0public\u2013private cooperation was a key factor for enabling digital mapping and thus\u00a0was able to engage\u00a01,250 smallholders\u00a0with\u00a0over 1,250 hectares\u00a0of land.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

[29:57]<\/span><\/i>\u202f\u00a0<\/span>Faruk Nyame\u00a0<\/span><\/b>from\u00a0Cocobod\u00a0(Ghana) shared his\u00a0view on\u00a0<\/span>Approaches\u00a0and\u00a0benefits\u00a0of Public-Private Collaboration\u00a0<\/span><\/i>in the Ghanaian Cocoa Sector.<\/span> The GCTS, the Ghana Cocoa Traceability System, supports Cocoa Farmers in making their products EUDR-compliant and thus creating a stronger Cocoa value chain and fosters trust between public and private stakeholders. He reiterates that \u201cCollaboration with supply chain partners is our strength\u201d.<\/span><\/p>

[45:39] <\/span><\/i>Our last speaker for the morning session was\u202f<\/span>Victoire De Wever\u00a0<\/span><\/b>from\u00a0OlamAgri, which works to\u00a0establish\u00a0sustainable and traceable natural rubber value chains. Through public private partnerships farmers in the rubber sector were supported and trained in mapping their land. This bolstered EUDR-compliance and thus supported livelihoods in both Indonesia\u00a0and\u00a0C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire. The partnership allows for a bigger scale and creates the possibility for more innovative activities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

[01:21:50] <\/span><\/i>Our afternoon session was opened by\u00a0<\/span>Josil Murray\u00a0<\/span><\/b>from the European Forest Institute\u00a0(EFI), who shared news and knowledge from the<\/span> EUDR Community of Practice (CoP).\u00a0<\/span>The CoP\u00a0promotes\u00a0collaborative engagement\u00a0between\u00a0businesses, EU\u00a0Competent\u00a0Authorities\u00a0and the\u00a0European Commission, focusing on the exchange of practical solutions and the identification and resolution of implementation challenges.\u00a0After\u00a0dry runs\u00a0(simulating checks on an operator\u2019s due diligence System and shipments)\u00a0<\/span>the key learnings were clear:<\/span>\u00a0Neither side had all the\u00a0answers\u00a0and the most useful discussions\u00a0emerged\u00a0when different perspectives were brought together.<\/span>\u00a0The dry runs created m<\/span>ore openness\u00a0<\/span>and a\u00a0better<\/span>\u00a0identification of practical solutions.<\/span>\u00a0She was accompanied by two private sector members of the CoP<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>Keelong\u00a0Foo,<\/span>\u00a0Tatwin\u00a0and N<\/span>icolaos\u00a0Safouris, Mars<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>who shared their\u00a0<\/span>experiences and lessons learned<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>from<\/span>\u00a0this engagement<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

[01:47:12]<\/span><\/i>\u00a0Last but not least,\u202f<\/span>Cecilia Korber\u00a0Gon\u00e7alves<\/span><\/b>\u00a0from\u00a0<\/span>ProForest\u00a0(Brazil)\u00a0<\/span>presented the Transparency\u00a0Taskforce\u00a0of\u00a0Coaliz\u00e3o\u00a0Brasil\u00a0which\u00a0<\/span>is a\u00a0multi<\/span>\u2011stakeholder platform, bringing together\u00a0private sector, finance, civil society,\u00a0and\u00a0academia.\u00a0It advances national policy and technical solutions for soy and beef traceability, emphasizing data transparency, interoperability, and integration of existing systems, while promoting inclusion and alignment with market regulations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Throughout the sessions, speakers\u00a0showcased\u00a0how collaborative, public\u2013private approaches are accelerating EUDR-compliant traceability across commodities.\u00a0The shared takeaway\u00a0is that\u00a0<\/span>deforestation-free value chains hinge on regulation\u00a0and\u00a0cooperation,\u00a0and that a cooperation between the Public and the Private Sector\u00a0remains\u00a0not only necessary but beneficial\u00a0<\/span><\/b>towards achieving\u00a0EUDR-compliance and social inclusion.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
