The International Trade Centre (ITC) has released updated versions of its series of practical handbooks on the European Union Deforestation-free Products Regulation (EUDR), incorporating updates from the latest guidance and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) published by the European Commission. In addition, ITC has also launched three new handbooks to further support businesses in meeting EUDR requirements ahead of the regulation’s entry into application on 30 December 2025.
The ITC handbooks are designed to help businesses navigate the complexities of EUDR, which applies to key commodities including coffee, cocoa, palm oil, cattle, rubber, soya and wood, as well as selected derived products. The handbooks offer step-by-step guidance, practical business scenarios, and recommendations to assess risks and prepare due diligence statements.
The three new handbooks address emerging needs identified by companies, business support organizations, and policymakers:
- Downstream due diligence for non-SME companies: A step-by-step guide for large downstream operators and traders to meet their obligations under the EUDR.
- Legality compliance: A practical guide to understanding and demonstrating compliance with the regulation’s legality requirements, including examples of documentation and evidence.
- Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS): An analysis of the role of VSS in EUDR compliance, explaining how certification can support risk assessment but cannot replace due diligence obligations.
“These updates reflect the latest regulatory developments and respond to the questions and challenges raised by businesses as they prepare for compliance,” said Mathieu Lamolle, Senior Advisor and ITC’s EUDR focal point. “With these new resources, ITC aims to empower companies of all sizes to take action, avoid trade disruptions, and contribute to deforestation-free value chains.”
The full series now includes 9 handbooks covering topics ranging from introductory guidance on EUDR for companies within and outside the European Union, technology solutions and operational checklists, to these newly added 3 specialized modules.
