Launch of Report on Living Income Gap of Cocoa Producers in Cameroon

We are pleased to invite you to the virtual launch event of the new JRC–FAO report Bridging the Living Income Gap for Cocoa Producers in Cameroon: Insights and Policy Recommendations from a Large-Scale Household Survey.

The event is organised by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the National Cocoa and Coffee Board of Cameroon (ONCC). The report was developed under the EU-funded Sustainable Cocoa Programme, which supports efforts in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana to improve cocoa farmers’ livelihoods, address child labour in cocoa supply chains and strengthen forest protection.

Cameroon is the world’s fifth-largest cocoa producer and a key actor in the global cocoa market. Yet many cocoa-producing households still face significant challenges in achieving a decent standard of living. The report explores the scale of the living income gap, the factors that contribute to it and the policy options that could help close it.

During the event, the authors will present the main findings of the study and discuss pathways to improve farmers’ livelihoods while supporting more sustainable and resilient cocoa supply chains.

The event will be moderated by Mr Viwanou Gnassounou, former Assistant Secretary-General at the ACP Secretariat.
