FIT for FAIR

About the project

FIT for FAIR strengthens fair and sustainable agricultural supply chains by working with partner countries on supporting the alignment of actors with relevant EU and German due diligence regulations, such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the upcoming EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG).

In six countries the project is dedicated to establishing favorable legal and political conditions that support the ability of supply chain actors to comply with the EU and German due diligence regulations. To develop conducive political frameworks, the project analyses national laws and policies in partner countries, identifies gaps compared to EU requirements, and delivers policy recommendations to governments. A wide range of stakeholders from the private sector, government, civil society and academia work together to discuss challenges and policy opportunities, guided by technical expertise.

In doing this, the project promotes smallholder-inclusive supply chains and enhances access to European markets for supply chain actors. FIT for FAIR adopts a multi-stakeholder approach to facilitate dialogue and knowledge transfer via South-North and South-South exchanges.

The national implementation partners for FIT for FAIR are the Conseil National des Exportations (CNE) in Côte d’Ivoire, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA), the Colombian Confederation of Chambers of Commerce (Confecámaras), EuroCham Cambodia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with the National Agricultural Export Board (NAEB) in Rwanda.

The project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
