This document explains the introduction of due diligence processes in the Ecuadorian cocoa value chain to meet the requirements of the EU Regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR).
It describes a four-step approach ranging from raising awareness among smallholders to capacity analyses and the practical implementation of risk mitigation plans. The publication emphasises that strong organisational structures and the early involvement of buyers are crucial to securing long-term market access for producers. It also highlights success factors such as cooperation with local experts and adaptation to national laws. The aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of Ecuadorian farmers’ associations through transparent data management and sustainable farming practices.
