The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires companies to show not only that their products are deforestation-free, but also that they were produced in line with the laws of the country of origin. For many companies, that second requirement is the harder one to document. Which laws apply? Which sources can you rely on? And what role can public and private systems play in the checks?
In this one-hour webinar, IUCN NL and its partners share practical insights for companies in, or trading with, the European Union that source soy, beef, cocoa or coffee from Argentina, Paraguay, Peru or Colombia.
What you will take away
- Where the bottlenecks and opportunities lie for proving legal compliance in each of the four countries, per commodity
- How to use the European Commission’s new repository of laws of producing countries, alongside additional inventories of relevant legislation
- Which due diligence guidance and tools can support your legality checks
How public and private systems can (potentially) support legality verification, and where their limits are
Who should join
Compliance, sustainability and sourcing professionals at companies placing soy, beef, cocoa or coffee products on the EU market, and their suppliers in the four countries.
Speakers and discussants (to be confirmed)
IUCN NL and partners in the IKI project, the Colombian National Business Association (ANDI), the European Forest Institute (EFI) and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP).
