FIT for FAIR – Cross-Country Insights on Operationalising EU Due Diligence Regulations

Increasing due diligence requirements are shaping how producing countries maintain access to European markets. Within the FIT for FAIR project, cross-country learning sessions are organized to exchange experiences on operationalizing and preparing for EU due diligence legislation, including the EUDR and the CSDDD.

The Regional Technical Exchange in Southeast Asia on the operationalisation of European Due Diligence Legislation for Agricultural Value Chain (11 May 2026) examined how Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ethiopia and partners are operationalising the EUDR and CSDDD in palm oil, rubber, timber and coffee.

The Core message is that technology-enabled traceability is necessary but insufficient without strong governance, legal clarity on land tenure, and deliberate inclusion of smallholders and intermediaries.

This report summarises the key findings of the technical exchange convened by ITC with Thai National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) and Thai Environmental Institute (TEI), as part of the FIT for FAIR project, with the support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Thailand.
