Ghana is one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, accounting for approximately 15–20% of the global supply and supporting over 1.5 million farmers. However, this vital sector faces complex challenges, highlighting the need for coordinated action and stronger collaboration across cocoa-producing countries and stakeholders.
In this context, the European Union together with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Investment Centre, under the EU Sustainable Cocoa Programme and Initiative, are financing and providing technical support to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), as it launches a multi-stakeholder platform designed specifically with a focus on cooperation, coordination, dialogue and collective decision-making across the cocoa sector.
The platform, the Ghana Cocoa Monitor (GCM), will facilitate the establishment and nurturing of public-private partnerships for the development and implementation of national cocoa plans, serving as a gateway to ensure that cocoa production aligns with sustainability policies and standards.
