The report “Preparedness check of Sri Lanka for the EU Deforestation Regulation” (European Forest Institute, 2025) assesses Sri Lanka’s readiness to comply with the EUDR for rubber exports. While large manufacturers and plantations can demonstrate deforestation-free and legal production, most smallholder rubber producers lack the digital traceability and geolocation systems required for EU market access. The government is developing a digital mapping and registration system, but challenges remain in upgrading paper-based records, verifying deforestation-free status, and supporting smallholders. The report highlights the need for coordinated national systems and accessible data to ensure all producers can meet EUDR due diligence requirements.
