This study assesses the level of compliance of soy production in the Amazon and Cerrado biomes with key elements of the Forest Code, based on the analysis of 27 million hectares of soy cultivated in 20241 across approximately 134 thousand rural properties.
The analysis occurs within a context of regulatory and market transformation: the implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which requires zero deforestation after 2020 and compliance with the legislation of the country of origin; the erosion of the Soy Moratorium, which since 2006 prevented the purchase of soy from deforested areas in the Amazon after July 2008; and signs of restructuring in Chinese demand, that could reduce soy imports up to 21% by 2035.
The results are organized into two dimensions – deforestation with non-compliance issues and authorized deforestation – providing insights and recommendations for traders, financiers, and policymakers in directing due diligence, regularization, and market access actions.
