This first session of the Sustainable Finance Knowledge Journey, presented by Climate&Company and Sustainable Agriculture for Forest Ecosystems (SAFE), dives into critical aspects of sustainable finance through four insightful panels.

[0’37”] The introductory panel, “Why, What, and How? Grasping Sustainable Finance” provides an overview of sustainable finance’s importance and foundational concepts, laying the groundwork for understanding its role in addressing environmental and social challenges.

[09’34”] The second panel, “Financial Gaps for Forests: Reducing Deforestation in Supply Chains” highlights the negative impact of current forest finance practices and their potential contribution to deforestation. It introduces three key financing types—public, private, and philanthropic—and proposes solution-oriented approaches to strengthen forest preservation and supply chain sustainability.

[25’13”] The third panel, “Key Actors Enabling Finance for Smallhoders” explores the critical role of identifying key stakeholders in the financial ecosystem. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the sources of funding, fostering partnerships, and enhancing financial solutions to support smallholders effectively. The discussion also offers strategies for pinpointing these key actors.

[34’40”] The last panel, “Global Insight: Smallholder and Agri-SME Finance and Investment Network (SAFIN)” reflects on the important role of agricultural SMEs and examines the challenges posed by a fragmented financial ecosystem.

  • Promoting sustainable practices and collaboration by supporting village HCV/HCS conservation efforts, testing and strengthening the National Dashboard for traceability and legality, and fostering national and regional exchanges.
