Cocoa Insight: The role of spatial information for EUDR due diligence

This technical insight paper highlights the importance of spatial information for complying with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in the cocoa sector. It emphasises using Earth observation technologies and GPS to collect geolocation data, forest cover information, and protected area boundaries. This data helps assess and mitigate risks of deforestation and illegal land use in cocoa production, ensuring compliance with the EUDR. The document also discusses the need for combining multiple data sources and the challenges in verifying legality and deforestation-free status.
