Global deforestation continues to accelerate, threatening the climate, biodiversity, and livelihoods worldwide. To address these challenges and promote sustainable solutions, the Altamira Summit will take place from 3 to 7 November 2025 in Altamira Pará, Brazil. Recognized as an official Pre-COP 30 event, the Summit provides a platform for cross-border exchange, practical learning, and reflection on sustainable transitions towards deforestation-free value chains. The event is organized by the Hub of the Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains and supported by the local government of Altamira.
Alongside participants from 26 different nations in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, representatives of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), including the Secretary of Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation and Cooperativism, the EU Commission, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BZ) will join the event to highlight the shared commitment of governments and international partners in advancing cross-regional and cross-sectoral cooperation and to contributing to a constructive international environmental agenda.
The program will combine interactive workshops, policy dialogues, and field visits to local cocoa and cattle producers, demonstrating how national and international sustainability, legality, and traceability requirements can be met in practice. Technical sessions will provide space for in-depth exchange on regulatory frameworks, implementation strategies, and solutions to address specific challenges faced by smallholders and producing countries.
By bringing together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, civil society, and academia, the Altamira Summit will underline the importance of aligning global cooperation with local realities. It will provide an opportunity to deepen partnerships and to support the transition toward deforestation-free value chains – from the Amazon to the world.
