This report summarises the July 2024 stakeholder workshop in Accra, which presented initial findings on Ghana’s legal requirements for cocoa production and trade under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The workshop clarified that EUDR compliance is based on existing Ghanaian law, not legal reform. Key areas identified as relevant for due diligence are land use, child labour, environmental concerns, and workers’ rights. Many legal requirements were deemed not applicable to smallholder cocoa farming. Stakeholders discussed challenges in demonstrating compliance and highlighted the need for further training to distinguish between legality and deforestation requirements.
