This report analyses the structure, traceability, and transparency of cocoa supply chains in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. It details national production, trade, processing, and export systems, highlighting the dominance of a few major companies and the challenges of tracking cocoa from farm to export. Despite numerous public and private traceability initiatives, only a minority of cocoa is fully traceable to the farm level. Key barriers include fragmented data, post-harvest mixing, and complex land and trading arrangements. The report concludes that greater transparency is essential for credible traceability, improved governance, and effective sustainability monitoring in West African cocoa.
