This report analyses the state of traceability, transparency, and sustainability in Cameroon’s cocoa sector. While cocoa production is growing, the value chain remains largely informal, with limited traceability upstream of exporters and cooperatives. Private certification schemes and pilot public initiatives are improving traceability, but coordination and data integration are lacking. Sustainability risks include potential deforestation, poverty among smallholders, and child labour, though these are less acute than in West Africa. The report recommends harmonising public and private traceability systems, formalising informal actors, and investing in sustainability standards to meet future EU and global market requirements.
